  • No! Your phobia is NOT ridiculous! It may sound odd but there is something really behind it, that your mind has decided to keep from you unless you have the very first memory of having the phobia. If something occurred in your childhood that was traumatic enough to make your have memory loss of the event & created a phobia, it was a very SERIOUS incident to you. That's all that matters. If it is affecting your quality of life, you should seek counseling. I highly recommend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is not so "evasive", without as much trauma regarding remembering the original memory but more of an approach on baby steps towards letting go of the phobia thru "desensitization" therapy. EVER single person has some kind of phobia, whether they will admit it or not. The degrees of anxiety produced by the phobia will vary...butt everyone has at least one, if not several.
  • Did your mother eat a lot fish, while she was pregnant with you? As a younger child, did you live by the ocean? Is there a specific ocean animal that really sends you into orbit?
  • It may be something so simple as holding a fish when you were a little girl and thought it was slimey and smelled bad. I would not worry to much about it unless you scream when you see one. There are plenty of people I know that do not like fish in any way.
  • It is not that odd to have an unusual phobia. I recall seeing a show about strange phobias, and one young lady was terrified of - lettuce! There are ways to treat a phobia, and you may want to research them if you feel you need help. I guess it goes without saying that you never watched any of the "Jaws" films. ; )
