You can repair it by skim coating it. That is putting a very thin layer of mud over the entire area. It's not hard to do and way less expensive than changing the whole wall. You have to fill in the dints and tears with a heavier layer first then apply the skim coat. Then sand smooth with drywall sand paper. To remove the wall without damage you simply have to run a knife down the sides of the wall you want to remove up to the point that it touches the remaining walls and ceiling. Then knock out the wall that you want to remove. I hope this helped.
