  • Read up on PTSD, child abuse, spousal abuse, startle reflex, and other related topics. They will all cover it to some degree in there. Generally people who are stressed out or who are "on "edge" due to any reason are more prone to not reacting to everyday stresses as easily or in the same ways as people who did not have abuse in their past or who do not have it in their present life. Here are some online sites that might help: http://www.secasa.com.au/index.php/family/11/95/5 http://www.aardvarc.org/dv/effects.shtml http://www.aardvarc.org/dv/effects.shtml http://www.suite101.com/discussion.cfm/verbal_emotional_abuse/120919/1162202 http://www.counselingcorner.net/disorders/physical-abuse.html
  • Well... I had some pretty harsh abuse as a child.. and I know I react differently. I recoil, particularly from men, when they are loud or angry. I startle easier. I think this is pretty common...
  • Without a doubt. Our experiences shape our personalities, and if someone has experienced physical abuse that experience will have an effect on them. To learn more all you need to do is speak to people who have suffered from physical abuse. Alternatively you could read books on the subject. I will search for a book for you... EDIT There are many areas of physical abuse, I am not sure what to look at. You can find a heap of books on sexual abuse to women who have been in abusive relationships. • Tammerz, I don't know whether you know how to search for websites which will contain information you seek about anything. Just in case you don't, for this question, just type (victim abuse) into the google (or any other search engine) "search terms" box and hit return. It will give you a host of websites which you can choose from as you will. Popular sites are usually posted near to the top of the list (though some are sponsored and may have a business bias). I hope this a help to you.
