  • Not only did he believe in Big Brother he lived in fear of it. Big Brother is not only government but everyone around him; it is the idea that everyone watches everyone. In the book it was mentioned that even children were expected to inform government officials of infractions made by their parents. That is what Big Brother is. For a time O’Brien acted as if he did not care about Big Brother but it haunted him, he lived a double life and in the end could not maintain it. In the end he was found out and if he had any doubts about Big Brother they were washed down with Victory Gin.
