  • Well usually, most of them come with a basic sort of antivirus software, but know that most people go and buy additional software anyways. The real computer junkies see the bundled software as extra-junk...thus detest it. Just my two cents...
  • My answer is no. I don't want the PC manufacturer forcing a particular brand of software on me. It's bad enough that most PC makers force the latest version of Windows on you (try to get a new PC with XP now). If PC makers wanted to do me a favour, they could give me a coupon good for buying the security suite of my choice. But what I use is all free anyway.
  • With the Mac, such software is really not necessary. There are no worms, viruses, trojan horses, etc. loose in the wild for the Mac OS. It is possible to get an MS macro virus, but that would be limited to just Office applications and files and you can prevent infection by simply not opening any files with macros or by telling the program to not load the macro if you do want to look at the infected file. Finally, spyware require one to enter a valid Administrator password before it can be installed. So, for most users, this is not a problem either. The Mac OS is actually pretty secure out of the box.
  • Macs's and PCs alike are both vulernable to virus's... Obviously Windows has a much higher install base and as a result will gain much more attention to those that create virus's. After all why create a virus that is only going to do minimal damage? So, I agree with... Having virus protection out of the box would be extremenly nice!
  • My computer came with Norton but I only got the minimum protection full time. I had to renew my subscription to get the full protection. My ISP gives me some protection, too; but, I have to buy the full product to get more. My step-son got me avast! for free. I like it better than Norton. I would like to be able to pick the protection I want rather than have the place I get my computer from pick it.
