If you are a credit union member, they usually have a financial consultant. Your bank probably does as well. Or, you can make an appointment with an independent financial planner. The best advice I've found was the credit union -- and there was no charge.

A financial planner is a good idea. However, it would be wise to choose one which is not affiliated with or has a financial agreement with any brokerage, insurance, etc., which would provide the planner with a financial incentive to sell that company's mutual funds, bonds, etc. There are plenty of accredited, independents out there.
