interesting question!!! he is allowing him to exist. it can't be to torture his beloved mankind. gadz, maybe god allows satan to exist because everybody needs an arch-nemesis? :)

Go(o)d and (D)evil can't exist without each other. Just like night and day, hot and cold, male and female, great and small, it's the law of the Universe. The universe is like a mirror facing a mirror constantly reflecting itself an infinite amount of times. Therefore, everything in the universe exists by this law. No man is beneath the greatest among us, nor beneath the lowest among us. The saint and the criminal exist within all of us.

Both God and Satan are non-existent so one cannot be said to allow the other to exist - except in jest.

Interesting question, as relevant as pondering why God allows the Joker to exist as he is also fictional.

An even better question would be to ask, "Why did God create Satan to begin with?".

Actually the universe exists with opposites,and could not exist without it.There is day and night,up and down,hot and cold,dry and wet,etc. In a religious sense there would be good and evil and both are equally necessary.It is our concept of good and evil that confuses the issue for evil to one is good to another.

according to the bible, Satan exist to prove the point that humanity cannot guide itself. also to prove that god should guide humanity. right according to the bible the world is ruled by Satan, which explains why there is crime and bad things happen. but god has a plan to for humanaity which has nothing to do with this question and the answer is too long.

One theory that was once posed to me is that perhaps "Satan" is, in fact, working of the same side that the Abrahamic God is. It's just that, in order for the Abrahamic God to be a choice for people to have, there has to be an opposite option as well - for people to turn away from. Thus, the Abrahamic God's most powerful angel, is in fact doing that god's work (it's just very difficult) - which is probably why he made "Satan" to be the most powerful of the angels.

Because without evil there is no good, without night there is no day, without death there is no life. of course there was a time when we didn't know what good and evil were, then they ate the forbidden fruit. God gave us the gift of free will, he doesn't want us to be mindless drones, otherwise his creation would be very boring.

because satan is the one who really cares about us. he prompts us to dull the pain and stress that god puts in our lives by indulging in our 'natural man' that society looks down upon. haha sorry if this offends anyone. its just to lighten such somber moods

Ok, one more time. God is Darth Vader, Jesus is Luke Skywalker, the holy spirit is "The Force," Satan is Emperor Palpatine. God destroyed all the life on earth except Noah, Darth destroyed all the life on Alderan. So your question is why doesn't Darth destroy Emperor Palpatine? What difference would it make? Evil is as much a part of his own makeup, or Luke's, or the Force for that matter. But remember, it was Darth's willingness to have those feelings, wanting to vanquish his enemies, that lured him to the dark side in the first place.
