Help answer this question below.

Ive never rented a house before and my bf and i found one today. it says that they have washer/dryer hookups. does that mean its JUST the hookup, or does that usually include the actual washer and dryer also?

Just the hook ups. Othertwise they would say "washer and dryer" included!

- That would really unusual! Of course when you call you can always double check and just ask, but it would be really rare unless you were leasing or buying an older home.

Unfortunately, they just supply the hook ups. But, if you're really interested in the place and have pretty good credit, you may be able to get the landlord to install a washer and a dryer before you move in. It doesn't hurt to ask.

- well its low income housing, and we havent established credit yet, i actually own the credit company 400 cus i got sick and couldnt work anymore. grr.

- I'm sorry that you are ill and unable to work. Sadly even though someone makes money from your rent, landlords are not very responsive in low income housing, so pay close attention to the type of hook ups in the house before you purchase washer/dryer. You know there are programs that can help you purchase your own home. Perhaps, that may be something for you to look into down the road.

- yeah. very true. my bf and i just had a long talk and we are thinking of just waiting a little longer. i have a hearing next month on whether i will be approved for social security or not, so we might as well wait, cus we may find a better deal. that way we can save money before the baby comes. thank you for your help.

just the hook ups. But, make sure you know the kind of hook ups... gas or electric!! Big difference!

Nope, just the hook ups. and make sure your very careful when you do it because if you make water damage you'll lose your security deposit.

I own several rental properties. Washers and dryers are not provided. Hookups mean just what they say. Generally, refrigerators are not provided either. There are several reasons for this. The number one reason is that renters sometimes move out without notice, and steal the appliances. Or they mistreat the appliances.

I would love to provide all appliances to my renters, and have in the past. Unfortunately, I've been taken advantage of. It only takes a few renters to ruin it for the rest. I have consistently found that a large majority of renters who seem honest have ripped me off or vandalized my homes.

I'm certainly NOT saying you fall into this category, but this is what landlords have to deal with frequently.

- So buy cheap appliances out of craigslist..I sell them every week for $50 or less usually.. I just sold a fridge for $50, a washing machine for $30, but they were old and had a lot of past use, but heck..so what if someone steals it or abuses it?
