  • Experience. Lots of it. Make sure you have worked in one and know the ins and outs. The hardest part is making sure you are not going to get buried under in competition.
  • Nothing much, it's the simplest form of Bricks and Mortar business there is which is why White people struggle with it whereas you'll always find an Asian or Hispanic dude with a shop and a mortgage paid off house. Anyway, the important thing is to have a good cash & carry or wholesale store with a reasonable price for your supplies - too cheap and you'll make nothing too expensive and you'll make nothing and that you choose a good shop layout that you find easy to handle and your customers can find what they want in. You want a store on a main road for passing traffic or a store in a large block of houses so people will find it conveniant to use. Your first two upgrades should be a decent camera system to deter and catch shoplifters and a decent Epos system so you can save time from serving customers but more importantly collect data for analytics to determine what your customers are buying and with what or when this will allow you to concentrate your efforts to more productive items and phase out less productive items.
