Because it's a rip-off. You have to enroll in a paid program in order to get the report. The only legitimate site from which you can get a credit report is www.annualcreditreport.com. From that site, you can get one copy of your credit report from each of the big three (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian). It's recommended that you get one report every four months (which you are legally allowed to do) so you can constantly monitor your credit history for inaccuracies and fraud.

You don't have to approach these sites to get your report.

FreeCreditReport.com® provides you with a free Experian® credit report and Experian Plus Score (sm) with enrollment in a 7 day free trial program. Some members enjoy the benefits of their credit monitoring product and choose to stay but if you would like to cancel, you can call their customer service department before the 7 day trial period ends and your credit card won’t be charged. With FreeCreditReport.com, you can get unlimited Experian credit reports and unlimited credit scores when you stay in the program. Your credit is also monitored for any unusual activity. The U.S. Government only provides one free credit report per year.

Because they are lying aholes. First of all anything on the internet that says it is free is not. Don't buy anything over the net with a cc that says it is free. I got ripped off this way and trying to recoup your money is a nightmare.
