what are statins?
Jim and I each take Lovastatin. He used to take the 40 mg (that's what I take) and had some problems with his muscles..his doctor reduced his prescription to 20 mg. and he has had no problems since. I am unaware of any problems stemming from my taking Lovastatin. Happy Sunday! :) ((hugs))

You're reading How many of you have had side effects from statins?

Cholesterol reducing drugs.

Oh, sorry never taken them, although my last reading was 238. For some reason I though you meant an acne drug!Have you had side effects?
by 34th st. on October 6th, 2009
Yes, and other people I know have too. For some the side effects subside when you stop taking the drug, and for others the damage is permanent.

This sounds really serious. Are you OK? What kind of side effects are we talking about? How high does ones reading have to be for these obviously risky meds to be prescribed?

Friends of mine have been prescribed them when their cholesterol has been over 200. People mainly complain of muscle weakness but there are reports of myopathy, myositis, rhabdomyolisis, heart failure and liver failure. I do, however, know people that have taken them for years and have had no effects at all.

I'm hoping they've had some effects, mainly that their cholesteral count was reduced!

By that time, I don't think they care either way!;)

I'd hate to have to be dead to get my cholesteral below 200!

LOL. Yes, it pays to be cautious with medications.
