  • Perhaps the Third World, less developed countries would manage better than the high tech ones? Afterall, they do not rely upon technology, probably farm, and may never know the difference.
  • I think some areas would do better than others. the more technologically advanced are in big trouble if their inventions cannot be utilised (eg electricity shortages; fuel prices too high). I can sew, but the generation below me cannot. I can cook, but many cannot. I know how to grow food, but many do not...and even I cannot do this as well as some. I know I live fairly simply, but many people I know cannot do without gizmoz, gadgets and luxuries...I am not saying I would survive a global catastrophe, but I could give it a go...I just worry about so many that cannot.
  • Pretty honestly, yes. We rely on our most recent inventions to guide us, help us, give us answers. I was at my father's last weekend, on Sunday, and I was looking through and old encyclopedia. I was amazed at the books layout and all. My father noticed, and he mentioned how books are very good. And it made me think, really made me think about how we're so corrupted, in a sense with our technology these days, that we've forgotten about the books, the raw material we have to refer to. And I realized that I could not function without my computer and my cell-phone. And when you've gotten to that point, it's pretty bad. It's not that I can't function, but there's a lot I'll be deprived of in that particular area. I can cut down any time, no problem. But It's just become a necessity for me, and many other people.
  • In many cases, yes. Personally, I would be saddened and inconvenienced, but the only pieces of technology I truly rely on are my car, my water pump (I have a 250-foot well), and my propane heater. Give me a couple of mountain bikes and a woodstove and I think I could adapt quite well considering I am FAR from anything that could really be considered a town.
