Help answer this question below.
Stop smoking # 1 ...#2 ...Walk to begin with taking it slow til you are 'winded' then take a day off continue this steadily increasing the length of your walks to a min. of 2 or 3 miles every other day...eventually in the middle of a walk just start jogging...
bursts of 100 yards or more ALWAYS , stretch a little before and for several minutes after walking/jogging...Keep this up for (hopefully a life time.) a long period of time in the middle of this you'll regain most of your singing ability - you'll sustain notes longer,,,BUT DON"T SMOKE !Good luck!
welllll...
smoking causes irreversible damage to the voice.
its like if you were trying to talk/sing in the whistle register all day without breaks or drinking... the vocal cords become strained and begin to lose their tone giving the raspy and phlegmy voice, and cutting significant length off your range.
the breathing techniques problem is because your lungs are being filled with tar and toxins, gradually burning them away, and your lungs are working extra-hard to keep themselves working. so naturally, you lose your tone and breathing technique.
the only way to get your voice back is to quit smoking.
but. you may never get your voice back to how it used to be, mind you... smoking is very damaging.
so the answer is to quit ASAP. or just forget about having your beautiful voice back, im sorry....
good luck. :)
25 years of smoking and the only thing that worked for me was Chantix, see your doctor ASAP.
Quit smoking?
LOL. Quit smoking. and Yeah I know it's hard but in the long run it's better for u. If u don't stop it'll get worse and then when ur doing a gig and your out of breath you will know why.

Well since you started smoking and it has affected your voice wouldn't the first thing to do be STOP smoking......the damage done may be irreversible but if you continue smoking I can guarantee it will get worse.....
Ummmm.... Number 1, theres tar in cigarettes not mentioning all the other harmful things in them... so why the hell would you smoke in the first place? ESPECIALLY if youre a singer.. Number 2, if you quit back when you posted this, chances are your voice went back to normal. IF you didnt, i doubt youd get it back even after only a few months of smoking.
