Talk to your doctor and get a referral to a therapist. Symptoms of depression include insomnia (or sleeping all the time), anxiety, negative thoughts (guilt, feeling ugly, hopelessness) irritability, changes in appetite, a sense that life is just no fun, lack of interest in things you usually enjoy, difficulty concentrating. Many people respond well to anti-depressants, but as soar.on points out, this is a controversial issue for some people and it is another good reason to have skilled help. Whether taking medication or not, getting out of the house, avoiding alcohol or other drugs and making the effort (which may seem huge) to get on a routine sleep schedule, to bathe daily and to eat fresh foods regularly can help. Depression can be caused by lots of different things. Talking with a counselor about what isn't going well in your life can give you a handle on what brought the depression on. You can learn coping skills to keep it from coming back. Good luck.

follow the dosage instructions you're given carefully and pay attention to how you feel and any changes you notice because your doctor will need this information to adjust your dosage or change your med if you are getting side effects. be patient, they usually take at least a few weeks to start working.

I have taken anti-depressants for about 8 years...im 18 now And if i DIDNT have them i would probably have comitted suicide, Taken anti-depressants is a process of elimination. Not all of those medicines will help you, some of them will make you worse and some of them (a select few) will make you feel SO MUCH better. There are alot of side effects with anti-depressants. So be very careful and make sure you read the directions, side effects, precautions etc. just be carful...trust your doctor they know what theyre talking about and if you dont believe them...then ask for a second opinion...Good Luck

For almost ten years, I have taken anti-depressants in mega doses in order to enhance the ability of my pain meds to control chronic pain. I would consider my experience with anti-depressants successful. Bowever, I have found that in addition to following the doctor's orders about dosage, time consistency is very important. Once you begin taking the tablet at a specific time you must stick to that time. For me 9 AM CST begins my medication day, no matter where I am or what I am doing. If I don't maintain consistant levels of medication in my body, I end up in horrible pain curled up in the fetal position crying.

NOOOO you should take anti depressants ONLY under the guidance of a REAL DOCTOR!

if i was to tell you one thing it would be to listen to your doctor and take your medication. it can take a few weeks for the anti depressants to work. sometimes you might get a few side effects but they normally pass and if you have any worries dont just stop taking them speak with your doctor first, if you do find they are not working your doctor can change your meds to find one that does. all anti depressants work different for different people. when you start to feel better dont just stop taking the meds you need to come of them slowly with the help of your doctor. lastly good luck :0)
