I was hoping to buy a "champagne" scanner to transfer my sketches on to my computer, on a "beer" budget..any suggestions..PLEASE help!!

You could borrow one. And/or perhaps use one at the local library. Scanners are pretty inexpensive these days in any case. Epson makes nice scanners; they have an all-in-one unit that's an ink jet printer, copier and scanner, on sale for $79. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828103386
