Your cat may be in the litterbox straining, they may be meowing more, and acting uncomfortable. Also if you notice less urine in the litterbox then normal. They might also vomit and not eat. But I'd get your cat to the vet ASAP because they can die from it!!

It could be a whole array of things, gallbladder stones, cyst, urinary tract infection, thyroid problems, litter is dirty, diet, intestinal blockage, get the cat to the vet.

hon ask anyone on ab. oops it the light of my heart. she/he had this problem she would scrunch down like constipated but could not go.. this is deadly for cats. cats i am told by vet rarely get constipated. if a cat cannot pass urine is a sign or er.... please i beg you with all i am ... if you cat is trying to go ... but can't get them to the vet ASAP. i about lost oops in ignorance. he developes bladder stones easy. if a cat is straining you have problems. oops needs all canned food never dry. please for your cat's sake seek a vet. +5

Get the cat to the vet pronto. Nothing can be more painful than that. It could have a blockage in the urethra, or some growth pressing against the passageway. That has to be agonizing.
