I'll start the ball rolling on this. I don't think that this is an appropriate song to be teaching to grade school children and it does not matter to me which president is in office at the time. A song praising the office of the president might be acceptable, as part of teaching them about the government of the country, but to so flagrantly praise the man who is currently holding the office is not appropriate, regardless of who he is. Yes, I would have been just as outraged about it if it had been praising George W. Bush or even Ronald Reagan.

Honestly? No. Now, big question: is this just ONE school? Or all of them?
-
Like Moongrim said, is it just one school, or a whole district adding this to their curriculum lol. Everyone knows children are impressionable, I guarantee there have been a few teachers that have slipped their political views into the minds of children in the past. Religious people do it, racist people do it, liberal people do it, well...everyone does it lol. At least it's a song and not a quiz they have to intentionally study for to beat it into their heads lol.

we've brainwashed our children for centuries. we rarely think about the fact that our founding fathers CHOSE to allow SLAVERY. we teach the wonders of MANIFEST DESTINY as though it's GOD'S WILL never discussing the millions of Native Americans slaughtered, the land confiscated, the killing of wild animals ... we still teach about the great things that the robber barons did with their money but rarely talk about the "slave labor" and CHILD LABOR 100 HOURS A WEEK upon which that was built. . is this chant wrong? i'm going to disagree with the fine folks above. if this chant, used to describe virtues of a leader, were contrasted with a chant of the virtues of a conservative leader, so that the effect would be that kids learn to think about both sides of issues, then, that's great. if it's just brainwashing, that's not so cool. . throughout my schooling, our band and choir were invited to participate in political speeches on both sides. those were memorable experiences for me and they were BALANCED.

If it's just a single class; no problem. But if it's mandated at a district level or higher, well...

The president is the chief executive. Most are average, a few have been exceptional, a few have been just awful. The good news is it is tough for one person to totally wreck the nation by themselves-Unless, of course, the people enable it, by assuming that the president is infallible, a fearless leader, like Caeser. There is, in my opinion, a problem when the presidency becomes a cult of personality. Actions that promote the notion that it is acceptable for the president to become the center of a personality cult should be regarded as inappropriate, no diffent than spitting on the sidewalk is considered inappropriate.

It is never appropriate, in my mind, to teach children to sing the praises of any leader. There is a reason why children are often taught through song. Songs are easily remembered and looked upon with fondness by children, thereby making the message of the song more easily implanted in the child's mind. I am not an Obama supporter, nor was I ever a Bush supporter, and I will always maintain that it is unhealthy and wrong to make children sing songs about our leaders, even if I liked the leader. I simply can't think of a reason why it would be appropriate.

Kids should not be taught to sing praises to ANYONE, including Jesus Christ, Buddha, Vishnu or Krishna. Such has no place at all, in schools supported by taxpayer dollars. Thanks for calling this bovine manure to my attention. +5

Not right, its pushing politics on children and they shou;d be worried about studying and playing....
-
Maybe not everyone is old enough to remember but Pres. Bush Sr. did the same thing and it was no big deal funny how things change when different people do them.
-
Whether it is Obama, Bush or Carter it is not appropriate.
-
Very inappropriate. It smacks of dictatorcism. Obama wants to become one.
-
it's creepy
-
Or Chairman Mao. This is a tactic used by all the great dictatorships of our times. Even in N. Korea. Why should it be surprising that they should praise Obama in a similar manner? He was voted in with the simple promise of undefined 'change', and he's constantly repeating that he's going to remake this country in his image. I'm not surprised at all.

Just goes to show you what public education is really about: building a better slave.
-
Not cool. I don't care *who* the president is, there are certain things that just should not be done. Then again, maybe my answer shouldn't count since I am not an Obama supporter; I was merely voting *against* Palin.
-
This is not right, regardless of who the president is. These children are being brainwashed.

haha I sure didn't see crap like this when it was Bush! I just love hypocrites! Back in 2006 children from Gulf Coast states serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the President, Congress, and Federal Emergency Management Agency for their response to -- of all things -- Hurricane Katrina. The lyrics were as follow: Our country's stood beside us People have sent us aid. Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade. Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand! If one is old enough to remember the Stalinit posters, he knew the value of 'getting them young'. Even today there are Russians who long for the 'good ole days of Stalin'. Every great dictator knew this technique and used it for all it was worth. I'm not at all surprised but I'm am outraged that it's happened. The principal of that school said, "I'd do it again". Since she doesn't know right from wrong, and therefore is not qualified to teach or supervise children - she needs to be in the unemployment line, now.
