I don't play the lottery. Lotteries nothing more than a tax on the poor and the mathematically challenged.

That seems to be the only way lately one could ever get some change to believe in, for the huge tax hikes are a coming!

Here's where you made the first mistake, just the first few words in your comment.... "What if, say the government, were to implement a program" When an idea starts that way, it's nothing but trouble. I'd rather see it say "What if the free market industry were to compete against each other to offer the public better choices at competitive cost and let them choose their own (name it, doesn't matter)" Capitalism works 100% of the time it's tried, and nothing says more jobs, more money, and more freedom then free market.
Avatar Stevie Sep, 22 2009 at 02:24 PM
If we allowed the free market, only folks with money would be able to offer products or services. Without the money, the people are left to choose from the folks who ARE able to offer products or services at a customer's specifications. Right now, if there is a kid living in the ghetto of Detroit with the capability to produce the greatest piece of technology known to man but is more concerned with living until the next day, he will never have that chance and thus the free market has failed to produce the best choice. A company with more money will have more options than one that doesn't, including buying out the little guy to keep competition low or nonexistant. A free market only works if technology alone produced the goods and services required by the population and the population could retrieve it on equal footing without money.

Well, the free market allowed me to retire at the age of 53, not waiting until, what is it now, like 67 or so as the government would like you to do. After 35 years of working at the same place, I was gone never to look back. The kid in Detroit, if he really does have that great piece of technology, would move from the ghetto of Detroit to some condo overlooking Canada. It's called the American dream, and it has happened time and time and time and time again, and always will, unless, of course, The Great One has his way.......

Hope. It's an infinitely small chance I will win the Big One - but greater than zero... I don't play all that often though.

If people did not think they could win. We would not play.

I applaud you for wanting to improve the lives of folks who are unfortunate enough to be stricken with the disability. I can relate in that I am trying to improve the lives of everyone. It may sound unrealisticly idealistic, but I have found the fun comes in the journey and not the destination.

You sound young but it is cool.
I am over Forty and have been a full time Mom for Years.
The Educational System in this country and the world for Autistic people is beyond bad. ABA works and can be documented. NYC. Teachers still have not been trained in it. I think it is time they were all trained. I think those who can not do thinks right should be fired. MONEY GIVES YOU THE POWER TO CHANGE THINGS FOR THE BETTER!!!
Avatar Stevie Sep, 22 2009 at 06:30 AM
But it also gives power to those who don't wish things to change for the better. Think Exxon Mobil's desire to keep putting pollutants in the air. Their desire is what politicians hear, not the taxpayers or anyone that might care.
.
Personally, I think money is the most corrupt part of our system and I think it needs to be abolished. People much smarter than I have come up with ways to do it, but it's ultimately up to the majority, and if the status quo establishment keeps its foothold on power, then it will never reach the majority.

I don't think too much about it, I just buy a ticket and every so often I check the numbers.
