Seems like everything I type this week is laced with the phrase "no simple answers..." Sigh. - Yes, it's possible for cosmetic surgery to boost self esteem. However, it can also be a "band aid" which attempts to bypass genuine personal development.... maybe what someone really needs is to take a good hard look in the mirror regarding their values, for example, rather than fix up the outside. - If someone has a really glaring "defect" that bothers them continuously, cosmetic surgery seems like a reasonable way to deal with that. - If I were in an accident that disfigured my face, I'd probably want to get that reconstructed. I think most people would want to at least try to restore their original appearance. - I don't think it's such a terrible thing to want to improve one's appearance with plastic surgery... but it's probably wise to observe the degree of obsession with this... someone who is preoccupied with their appearance, or believes that they're unattractive, or is desperately fighting off age, etc... needs to look inward more deeply for a more satisfying resolution to their angst.
