Does thinking as a teenager that you are mature, excuse you from the rules like age limits? EG you think you are mature at 14, so you think you don't have to wait till your a certain age like 18 which is the law?

I do think I'm a bit mature for a teenager (more mature than any other teenagers I know, anyway).

However, I KNOW that this doesn't make me exempt from age limits.

I'm mature enough to realize that.

Most Teenagers that think they are mature really aren't. Life experience makes someone mature. Not intelligence. I never met a 14 that was mature enough to handle tough situations like being in law enforcement, or drinking alcohol, or smoking. It's too young to know specifically what they are getting into. Youngsters are more likely to give into peer pressure.

There are developmental stages in life that just take time and can't be bypassed. It's normal for teens to overestimate their own level of maturity... but in fact humans continue to mature throughout their lives in a variety of different aspects, and even the most mature teens have a long way to go.

However, arbitrary limits like 18 or 21 don't have any truly special significance in terms of one's development -- it's just that society has to draw certain lines somewhere. It's not as if, on the day you turn 18, something special happens in your physiological or psychological makeup.

I think I am tall, even though I am actually only 5'1", does that mean that I can do jobs where there is height requirement (for good reasons)? No. There is a wry saying that goes: God, give me the strength to change the things I can change, the patience to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Teenagers like to push the boundaries, its a hormonal thing. Maturity is a state of mind, Im 42 and I still think like a 25 year old... however, at 14 I was never mature enough to do things adult do, no matter what I thought at the time... it leads to situations you cannot get out of... like getting a girl pregnant.
