American free market capitalism can never work as it relies upon the integrity & morality of those in power, both politically & economically. & they have neither. What do you think?

Unfortunately you and many others as well have been misled. The American free market system is made up of all kinds of people buying and selling all kinds of things. Small business, big business, service. the problem is that all those people have forgotten that they are the ones in power. They have allowed government to grow to the point that it is interfearing with the system. Until lately the people, the real government, have not exercised their authority as such. Things are changing.

I'm not an economist, I study political science so my answer is very politically biased - but that statement makes sense to me. I think its a lot more complicated that that, but like I said I have no idea about economics really so I have no idea what those other factors are! There needs to be just, fair, and intelligent monitoring of free market capitalism. To me, that's kinda what the government is supposed to do. I don't want complete control and de-privatisation etc, but there needs to be some kind of middle ground.
