There are several reasons for this phenomenon. 1) You never look for a pen when you do not need one. It might be just as hard to find then, how would you know ? 2) When you find the pen the first place you look you do not register the occasion as a search. you just write what you needed to write, thinking no more about it 3) Co-workers, friends and gremlins steal your pens all the time. regards JakobA

true!!! i have a hook above my door now so keys never get lost, what we need is something for pens +5 :)

I have lots of pens by my desk however not a darn one of them want to work when set to paper! +5

My personal solution is as follows: a) Purchase a gross of pens for each of home, office, car, etc b) Keep each gross with something you "cannot" lose such as title to house, passport, car registration. c) Don't worry about ever putting a pen back. Only remove them from your infinite stash.
