When talking about baseball, what does it mean to be half games behind other teams?

    In short, teams in the standings are behind or ahead because they have played more or less games than the other(s) at that given point in time.

    So, a team who is 10-5 is .5 games ahead of a team who is 9-5 because the latter is a game behind (15 games total). It is a way to gauge what team is better at the given point in time.
