Well, my mother learned 4 martial arts as well as military hand-to-hand combat training from her father. My mother passed it on to me. It's a good thing to know when you want to protect those you care for most. :)

As a young child I was clumsy and sick. If I was not injuring myself from falls I was near death yet again with some illness. Martial arts with martial health science was a suggestion that my parents choose in desperation, hoping to keep me alive to see adulthood. At first I hated the fact that everyone, including a pair of smaller younger twin girls in the class could & would easily drop me on my head several times every class and wanted to quit ... but after a few years of struggling and suffering with my discontent, I suddenly found self motivation to truly learn martial arts and a strong desire to become highly proficient ... that was way back in the 60s ... by 1977 I had a second degree black belt and have been teaching ever since and traveling the world to train with grand masters and increase my knowledge and abilities.

I like swords, and I like European history. It was a natural fit to want to learn the martial arts that were practiced by those that made European history. It's also nice to be practicing a martial art not steeped in mysticism. It's just "what works". :)

1. To protect the ones I loved and cared for. Times were a bit rough when I was young, and saw an immediate need and duty to do so. 2. To survive, second to the former answer because I care more about the ones around me then myself and would rather die and save them, then have them be harmed. 3. To protect all things pure and innocent in the world. Martial arts may have good "moves" but its much more than that. It is about being beneficial to the world around you. Which is why after my first two duties are satisfied, I am to protect those who cannot protect themselves. 4.To stay healthy, as it is indeed a good way to stay fit to accomplish all of the objectives above ^^D
