Keep in mind that before there was a weather service as we know it, hurricanes used to hit the coasts by complete surprise. Over 2000 died in Fla in 1928, 8000 in Tx in 1900. Now there is plenty of warning, with such storm systems approacing at a bicycle-like speed of 12 mph. Only local leadership ineptitude and populace stubbornness keeps people in the path of disaster, such as in the case of Katrina.

They know HOW to forecast. Just because you see one guy telling you what the weather is on TV doesn't mean it's that easy. I guess since the president just makes speeches and shakes hands on TV means it's an easy job too? Can you tell what a hadley cell is at least without using the internet? Can you tell me what type of circulation accompanies a high pressure system?
