  • I get irony and I honestly have never heard that opinion, though I know uneducated Americans really don't know what irony is at all. I have British friends on the Internet and they'd say that I understand irony (I know, example for anybody who is reading this who doesn't understand irony, read "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry).
  • I have heard that a lot of British comedy shows do not go across the pond pretty well because of the difference in types of humour. I do not think that it is particularly irony that is the problem but the differences in lifestyle
  • Perphaps the Amercians are just making your statement ironic. To be ironic there must be 3 parties. Firstly, the person being ironic, then an observer who takes the comment at face value, and then a third party who sees that the first is being ironic. Perphaps the Americans understand that and are just helping out!
  • Britsh folks have a different sense of hummor and interprate things i ways i personally do not get. Is that ironic - because i do like pink panther movies
  • Generalisation is never a good thing. It is something that people say about Americans and of course in some cases it is true. That does not mean that it is true in all cases. The same way that Americans say all British people have bad teeth and sound like the Beatles or Prince Charles. You only need to watch ONE Jerry Springer show to know that a full set of teeth or lack of, is not a British problem it is a problem in some stratums of Society everywhere. Stereotypes are never a good idea.
