  • Only one of the parents can claim the child on taxes. normally the parent that the child lives with claims the child. Although you and the mother may be able to make other arrangements such as you claiming the child every other year.
  • DARON J is correct, I am just adding to that answer. My parents worked out such a deal. My mother had custody and I lived with her. My father, kindly, paid more than the court stipulated for child support. He helped my mom out by scheduling visitation on days/evenings that she had to work to help keep childcare expenses down. So, she let him claim me on his taxes.
  • In Idaho you need to make more to claim the child in your taxes.
