When you do not listen you do not learn.

If the people in power have stopped listening to the people then they are in trouble.

I live with a scary gut feeling that empires are doomed to fall when they stop learning and that this is what is happening to America. We're fighing terror like WWII and not properly studying muslim psychology. What do you think?

No, America has not stopped learning. But America's politicians are still working on the principles they learned in the past, rather than adapting them to current problems and moving forward correctly. There is no going back to the way things used to be, so why do they (all) keep saying that that can/will (yes we can) happen?

    Worse.

They have been blindly learning all the bullshit that is spoon fed to them by morons with their own agenda.

You can be an excellent student and "learn" everything the instructor teaches you. But if your instructor is an idiot and you can't "think" for yourself enough to see that, you are doomed.

Rather than have to go through all the steps involved to find out information, all students have to do now is type their homework questions on the internet (and here on AnswerBag as well) and have the answers given to them.

well i dont know if we arent studying the tactics of our enemy. i believe that is a good part of strategy that is worth while, but our nation is also taking steps to prevent. most countries sit and plan and plan, but get nothing done. i hope we arent the country to just go in without thinking. i think we might have, just whether or not it is a habit is the question..does this make sense?

Yes. No learning and no self-thinking. If people are not told what to think, they only have a head full of air...

Plus, technology is turning people into pumpkin heads. The politicians love it!
And by the way, americans trust technology ...

I think schools in America no longer emphasize learning like they did when I was in school. Schools have become social networking sites for kids. Schools emphasize self-esteem at the detriment of learning.

Yes, and I'll go one step further and say that for some time now, willful ignorance and stupidity has become very popular. Look at our pop culture: the people who hold themselves up to be role models for our children! Lindsay Lohan? Paris Hilton? Brittany Spears? And that's just in the entertainment industry, let alone politics! The list goes on! And what do parents do? Well, they continue to buy the merchandise from those idiots so their kids will shut up. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I think the problem is the Teachers are not motivating the kids. Teaching is not about what they memorized or the Degrees they have. It should be about their ability to explain material to the students.

Of course. America has slowly but surely succombed to the notion that government is infallible, so on that belief the government has slowly but surely made inroads into the education process. The government benefits by people being ignorant, so slowly but surely, government influence in education has damaged people's fascination with their own curiosity. Slowly but surely they become bored with education. Slowly but surely they stop asking significant questions. Slowly but surely, they stop learning. Answer, yes.

no, we've just stopped learning the right things. when there's more people that vote for the next american idol or that know who's the top teams in any sport but don't know their senator or representative it's a sad day. our priorities are effed in my opinion.
