I think that rules of dating which minimize pain, heartbreak, disrespect, etc. are good ones. I don't believe in rules that have no logical purpose (i.e. a man must ask a woman out, a woman should expect to be paid for). Having sex early in the relationship has pros and cons. It all depends on the people doing it. I am a very sensitive person and personally I wouldn't do it for fear of forming an attachment to someone who's not committed to me yet.

No, there are no universally accepted rules for dating, as different cultures have different views on the dating process... When is it ok to begin a sexual relationship? When both parties are ready. How do you let someone know you're not interested? Firmly and respectfully is always a good bet. If the person truly loves and respects you - they will wait. If not, is that person really worthy of your time and/or respect?
