Aren't you open for theft if you leave your home? Sure, but I have a home security alarm, so it's generally safe.

Same goes for the computer. I got the right software to protect me. :)

If you never buy anything online or pay bills and all you do is use it for sites like this can they hack into it and do damage to you? Thanks HoboJoe!

Some hackers just want to do damage. Not even monetaary gains, just to cause someone grief. I think paying bills is safer than buying online. But even banks have been hacked before. Hibernate mode is very energy efficient, but turning it off is better. However, some say that turning the computer off and on regularly somehow harms it. Not sure about this.

I read that computers should be turned off at night. One is energy savings. The older computers use more power. Experts think the savings is as much as $90 a year. It also prolongs the life of your computer. And thirdly, it prevents hackers from getting into your computer. And lastly, you help prevent software crashes. Experts say that that windows, vista, etc. need a break too. I suggest turning it off for the night.

Turning it off saves on carbon emissions. It helps the planet.

No it makes no difference. You're safe where you are. The carbon emission is from using energy. A lot of experts recommend turning it off for the night.
