A moot quetion. Yes, people can be led away from what they were taught and raised with. But, sometimes they know better, but are powerless to change what is going on around them. I know, Nazi Germany is a case in point. But, there are many other examples. No country or people is totally "innocent". "For all have sinned...and come short of the glory"...__Jesus of Nazereth.

Perhaps if they don't try to free themselves, they can become corrupted.

Normally the intention of the evildoers is to get whatever meterial benefit they can out of the simple soul. Once they get it they leave the innocent alone. The innocent will continue their life with their innocent simplistic methods of living. The basic predominant character of a person does not change that easily.
