Why did Joseph Smith in the King Follett Discourse claim that Gen 1:1 properly translated should read, "The head one of the Gods brought forth the Gods" when the best manuscripts don't support this? And why isn't Gen 1:1 in the JST translated this way?

One could use this to indicate that Joseph hadn't finished the Inspired Version ;) I don't have a copy of the King Follett Discourse handy, but did Joseph say that's how the creation story should start, the way the Bible should start, or did he specifically mention Genesis 1:1 (corresponds to JST Genesis 1:3)? Likewise, the JST didn't alter Malachi to match Moroni's message (JS-History 1:36-39). I think Joseph ran out of time.
