It looks awful, even though on occasions I do it myself but I wouldn,t do it in an enclosed place.
-
I don't care. I used to smoke, so I know how it is.
-
Just say no, kids.
-
Personally, I'm all for it being banned. I'm for freedom of choice and I do think the government has too much 'involvement' in our lives, but I don't see why I should breathe in smoke when I don't even smoke.
-
Its awful and affects other people as well, who also inhale the smoke. It kills people as well. It should be banned.

This is going to be one of those smoker/nonsmoker debates. the smokers will be for it, the nonsmokers will be against it. I am a smoker. i try to respect the wishes of the nonsmokers, to a degree. smoking is not a law violation. its about respect and second-hand smoke. But, i and all other smokers, are not second class citizens. we have the same rights as afforded everyone else. Designated smoking areas are okay, as long as their is some form of weather protection for the smokers. Its just a matter of time before the older smokers are gone and hopefully this will not be a problem for the public at-large. Smoking became very popular in the 50s and 60s. smoking is a habit that is very hard to break. my doctor said it was more additive than a morphine habit. i believe that. All citizens have rights and i plan on using my rights and respecting the rights of nonsmokers. if someone complains, i move to another area.

As long as I don't have to breathe it let people smoke if they wish. I DO think making innocent kids breather it and older people who might have no choice as far as getting away from it in certain places is not right or fair. It is very popular around the Midwest to have smoke free bars AND restaurants and of course all public and many private buildings. In time, between the taxes added on to the cigarettes (It costs about $3.50 average a pack here now I think) and the lawmakers, it will be banned except in private homes and outside people's houses and in cars. Again, the ones who suffer are the children, breathing in just as damaging second hand smoke as their parent (s) who stupidly and selfishly smoke in the house when they have children living at home. I smoked for about 25 years, so I know it is hard to quit. But not that hard with the gums and patches and all that doctors can give people today. I quit cold and it was not even that difficult going from 2 packs a day to none.

Personally, I think it should be banned. EVERY family member on my mother's side (and my dad, and his sister) smoke, and I understand that it is very hard for people who smoke to go for a certain amount of time without smoking, but it is a very dangerous, not to mention disgusting, habit, that can harm the health of those around them. Banning it might encourage those who smoke to quit, and it protects the rest of society from second hand smoke dangers.

it should be banned. and i smoke.

I think that smoking in public places should be restricted to certain areas but do NOT ban it from public areas. People are going too far. Banning smoking from all public areas is discrimination, pure and simple. If you believe smoking is 100% voluntary, then stop breathing. You're addicted to oxygen? Well then, now you know. Some people want to quit but can't and they also have a right to enjoy public areas. But you non-smokers are all, "It's icky", or as one answer here puts it "...lacks morality". Okay, fine. Let us ban ALL harmful things in public. Religion has caused more harm than smoking. Any display of crosses, the Star of David, mention of any divine power/being, etcetera is banned. Some people (myself included) are allergic to certain perfumes/fragrances. Deodorant is banned. Cars emit carbon monoxide which is poisonous. Internal combustion is banned. I don't want to breath that filth! How DARE you put that stuff into the air I breathe! I think that smoking is a proxy battle. It is becoming more divisive that abortion and Iraq. Dare I say it... I dare! "Smoker" is the 21st century "Nigger"; a derisive term implying ignorance, stupidity, immorality, and inferiority while 'justifying' segregation.

Smoking is bad for you, you shouldn't do it and it's terrible smelling. Yeah, yeah yeah! If you don't like it walk away. I am an ex-smoker!!! We teach our kids that everyone has rights, but one by one they are being taken away. What next, will we need a permit to FART in public places soon?

I am allergic to cigarette smoke, so I'm glad that my state passed the law to regulate smoking to outside areas. It's gotten better over the years, but second-hand smoke used to trigger asthma attacks and if it were bad enough, a horrible case of bronchitis. It's good for me, but it sucks for smokers. If it wasn't a health issue, I probably wouldn't mind.

I smoke - and after smoking for too many year, having quit two or three times, it would be great to have a little extra help with this - I say yes, BAN IT! I already don't smoke in my home because of my children & grandchildren, smoking has been banned from the workplace for some time now and recently smoking has been banned in Maryland from bars and restaurants - which leaves my car but I do not see myself running to my car every ten minutes and there are little known laws that say you cannot smoke and drive with children in the vehicle ( mine are usually always with me)......it would help a bit more!

i try to absorb everything that's thrown at me in the public but smoking is the only that 'runs my battries down'.
-
Where I live they have passed a law against smoking in any public building so it's all outside which I think is good. Other than that it's to each their own.
-
I don't care for smoking in public or at any other time.
