Not always. It is just a story that may or may not be true. Hence the show "Myth buster". Sometimes the myth is right on. It is just something that has been passed down and maybe there may be truth in it or not. More times not true though, but every now and then the seem to have it right. Of course once it it proven, it is no longer a myth.+5

False. A lie is a deliberate attempt to deceive someone into drawing a conclusion different than they would have if given the truth. A myth is a fairy tale, usually told to entertain or teach some moral lesson. A myth is no more a lie than the Three Little Pigs is a lie.

Depending on the myth... in summer camps they may have a myth about a ghost that they talk about at the camp fire these are made up things meant to intrigue the children... But then there are the myths past down over the years from through out the generations ... these are things people actually believed before modern technology and medicine etc… So they were not lies even if they were not true... such as did you know that the reason people say bless you when someone sneezes is because they use to believe during a sneeze you could be possessed by a demon through your mouth? But then there are the myths are partially true, such as my grandmother always saying… Robin stay out of the rain! You’ll catch your death of cold! Well now days we know that simple rain will not harm you… but we also no that if it is cold out and you get wet, your body temp drops causing you resistance to go down, and yes you can catch a bad cold. The death of cold part was because back then before modern medicine people commonly died of flu’s and pneumonia which we know can stem from the common cold. So most (not all) myths are not blatant lies they were truly believed at one time.

A myth is a story that has, for some reason, attained a permanent place in the cultural Zeitgeist. Usually through depicting a useful moral tale or common sense lesson. Most myths are of a supernatural origin, and like the Grimm brothers tales they teach a world view based upon the knowledge of the time.

A myth is a myth. Because it is not actually lying they made up another word for that genre :P
