Do you buy your eggs in styrofoam or cardboard cartons?

Thanks answerbagy. I also recycle and buy cardboard for that reason. As far as I know styrofoam never breaks down and I avoid buying it whenever possible. It is unavoidable in the meat department.

Do you mainly shop at a large grocery store or at a smaller one ? I shop at a large grocery store and have to take the meat however it is packaged. There is a meat/butcher store in town but the prices are really high. They use cardboard but I can't afford to shop there very often....only when they have a sale.

I always shop at the large grocery stores, and they always have a butcher right there, I will have to start getting it from there, since I never see a lineup, when I go.
It is amazing how much people throw out though, hangers for example, perfectly new, and yet customers put them in the garbage
automatically, the sturdy ones too.

I would donate hangers to the Thrift Store, Salvation Army or Goodwill. We recycle as much as we can - paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, tin cans and aluminum....actually we sell the aluminum :) There are several places nearby that takes items for recycling. We have very little actual garbage.

That makes sense, and it is not so hard to do.
-I have never heard of metal recycling on a household level. Why isn't there the recycling of pots and pans etc. as long as there is no mixture of materials in the item.
-I have heard of a company that pays you with coupon with a choice of items on it. Do you know about that one?

You can recycle pots and pans. You need to remove all non-metal material like handles. Pans are usually alluminum and if it is 'clean' - free of non alluminum material it can be recycled at the recycle center. Pans not alluminum could be sold for scrap metal at a junk yard/scrap metal business.
I first try to donate pots and pans at Thrift Shop, Salvation Army or Goodwill.
I haven't heard about the company that offers coupons. Do you have more info on it ?
My community offers to pick up large household items a few times a year if they are left at curb....old washers, dryers, fridge and the like. I suppose the items are recycled but I'm not sure.

Re. the company that pays? for your recyclables is "recyclbank". I heard about it maybe a year ago, I just tried to go to the website I get "freezing"?. So anyway they supposedly weigh your stuff and they pay you for it with coupons.
-Thanks for the pots and pans and other metals. My community as well picks large items.

answerbagy, there have been problems with the comments 'taking' and showing. That's a bug that has been solved I think :)
What do you think of the new AB ? Many ABers have fled to fluther.com
They have kept their usernames and fluther seems happy to welcome ABers. I have an account there but I haven't given up hope that AB will solve some of the problems I'm having.

Thanks. I don't think I've seen eggs in a clear plastic carton. That's a better option than styrofoam since most plastic can be recycled.
