  • I have directed it. It is a wonderful show, that allows for a tremendous amount of freedom and creativity - in fact, if you stay true to the author's intent - the sky is almost the limit in what you can do; it really is like no other show I know in terms of allowing a director such freedom in creating his own vision. It is truly ensemble, not terribly linear other than at a macro level and appeals to audiences both young and old. The material is that good. New arrangements of the music were done for the 2001 Godspell Tour by Alex Lacamoire (protege of Stephen Schwartz, one of Godspell's composers, and recent winner of a Grammy for his musical direction of the Broadway show recording of In the Heights) which are brilliant and give a very refreshing lift to the music (We Beseech Thee and Beautiful City are updated masterfully). I can't say enough and if you have a specific question, I'm sure I could pontificate more about it!
