I'd be willing to bet that 98% of all politicians in power do not care one bit what their constituents actually think. They are primarily concerned with what to say to get them re-elected, whether they follow through or not.

Not after they get into office.

Only when its election time and they need the votes. After that, absolutely not. They got what they wanted, the office. Now its whatever he/she can grab while they're there.

It is one of the biggest problems of all western democracies that politicians are nothing but a bunch of nasty swindlers. Very few say the truth and do what they promise.
