Here there are laws against it but they are available for sale, I am told. I mostly get mine from friends living in cities. No way to tell if they are authentic or pirated, CT. +6.

Oh its illegal here to Suby but its so widespread now the police don't even bother..people buy and sell them freely..

I have heard of people picking up a movie on the way home from work everyday, CT. The pirated version costs just the cost of the disc and a nominal recording charge, I am told. Only if people will stop buying them the piracy will come to an end. No other way.
The good old days of having to hire a video cassette from the library are over. The pirated discs now cost less than what the hire charges of a Cassette was 15 years back!

Yes I agree..but it will never end now..people aren't going to pay £4 to hire a film when they can buy it for £2 are they?
Personally if I like a movie and what to keep it I much prefer the original..you can pick them up cheap enough now..
Its the same with the Cinema also..its far to expensive for people to go..the only way to encourage the *non-use* of piracy is to make the legal stuff cheaper..and I can't see that happening..can you?
If a family of four goes to the cinema in the UK the average cost Just to see the film is £25-£30..families can't afford that so what will they do?

Making the originals cheaper appears the only way. Trouble is it can never come to the levels of the pirated CDs. But if the price of the original is cheap enough people will go for them, I feel sure.

Eventually the film industry everywhere will collapse if the trend continues, CT. New films released will loose all their commercial value within a week. The box office and video rights revenue will dry up. All the glamor that we associate with the film industry will go up in smoke.
And the current customers of the pirated videos will have no more new videos to buy!

Now VHS recorders and players are practically out of home entertainment market. But DVDs could be copied too if you have a DVD writer in your PC.
