In my opinion, an emo is just an over emotional person. People say because some of them cut themselves, have flippy hair, they wear skin tight jeans, hate life, and even dont believe in god, that makes them emo. Thats not true! What is emo to you?

Exactly what you have just listed. I share your opinion. Emos are emos mainly because of depression or anxiety, and they dress accordingly in a dress sense that seems to magnify their depression

Well, technically I think that emo has become STEREOTYPE. But anyways...I think that emo is a lifestyle, almost. Its either that or a FAD. I do like certain things that are generally associated with the 'emo' interest/lifestyle, but that does not make me emo. Who's to say what emo really is in the first place, anyways?

I believe emo is a social grouping. It's a fashion sense, emotional hardcore music etc. An emotional person is just emotional, not 'emo'. Cutting yourself is a serious mental problem, that doesn't make you part of a social grouping. Hating life sounds more like depression than anything else. Skinny Jeans is just the current general fashion. Not believeing in any God, any religion or not keeping it as a possibility makes you athiest, not 'emo'. Anyone with mental problems and depression needs help, not a fringe. Many associate these things with it, but I personally believe it is just another social grouping

i totally agree. people keep thinking that all emos are going to dress like emos. i think emo people are emotional people who are pretty much just looking for someone to listen/understand them. i don't think all of them slit their wrists & think of death, though there are probably a few who do. & i don't think that all emos would really outright say that they're feeling misunderstood, so i don't think they'd all just wear the emo clothes. & while emos don't necessarily look emo, there are some emo looking people who aren't emo at all, but only like the emo look.

To me! Emo is: Someone that DOES NOT always cut themselves!! I believe in God b-cuz I'm a weird emo. They are over emotional people. {I'm insulting myself :p} We also hate life, hate ourselves, & think we have no place on Earth. We DO NOT always wear black. Emo acualy is a type of depressing music that has turned into a soical group. I'm emo and yes I hate myself but it doesn't mean we always cut ourselves. I do cut myself because I'm a screw up and hate myself. But not all are like that. I wear skinny jeans and have flippy hair but I do belive in god. I listin to alot of screamo music and deppresing music.

Emo is just another label that society has come up with to label people who look and are perceived to act and think a certain way. It's just an idea and like beauty it is in the eye of the beholder.

Emo is a social stereotype involving teenagers classified by their style and music choices. I don't think emo really has anything to do with being an emotional person. Emotional people are not necessarily "emo."

We may hate life but we do believe in god you have gotten Emo confused with some Gothics most Emos do not cut and if we do we have a good reason for doing so.
