Two major points: the roman catholic community split under the weight of the protestant reformation. the protestants believed that no intercessor was necessary to commune with god or interpret the word of god. there could be a direct line to god, which circumvented and rendered obsolete the need for a priest, a bishop, or even a pope. the catholics kept these ideas though. evangelicals believe in actively spreading the gospel. it's part of their mission to be vocal and spread god's word. catholics normally have missionaries to accomplish goal, albeit much more quietly

One of the keys is implied in the question itself. Catholics are not Evangelical. In other words, Catholics do not preach with the intent of evangelizing or winning converts to their faith. Catholics are more inclined to passing the traditions onto their children. Evangelicals on the other hand, seek to fulfill Christ's Great Commission to "preach the gospel to the ends of the earth" in the hopes that some will hear and believe in Him. Good question. Thank you.
