Cannabis has small hairs on the leaves. These hairs can irritate the stomach lining. Cooking "melts" these hairs, reducing the chance of irritation (thus the infamous "brownies" being so popular). Cooking is generally needed to convert the cannaboids to cannibol, which is what helps get you high. (That is why "burning" marijuana, eg. smoking a joint, gets you so high so quick, as well as the delivery being more direct to the bloodstream). Ingesting Marijuana changes marijuana from a "health hazard" (smoke) to a health benefit (fiber). But it is recommended you cook it at the proper temperature to "melt" those hairs; don't overcook (heat converts cannaboids to cannibol to a third form - which will make you drowsy). Either way -- it's been years since I studied the chemistry of this interaction. Just don't cook it too long if you do cook it. However, you can still get high eating uncooked marijuana - it just takes longer. Enjoy! (Salad, anyone??)
