What does "screened major" mean? I'm applying to college for a nursing major and it says "Screened or competitive major. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to this major program"

I believe it means that they have a screening, or selection, process for the people who are admitted to that major. Since it's a highly competitive major, they can't just let anyone who wants to be in, in. They have limited space, so they hand select the people they want. Nursing is a tough major to get admitted to around here. Good luck getting in though - it would be a great career. (And we always need nurses!)
