What is the north American Equivilent of a bank deposit account which is called notice deposit account in commonwealth area which falls between a savings account and a certificate of deposits which require 30,60 or 90 day written notice?

I think your takling about a CD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certificate_of_deposit It pays higher interest than a savings account, but must come to maturity before it can be cashed in

I do not believe we have one. Our passbook accounts do state in the fine print that a bank can require notice but I do not believe any do. Our CDs are for a fixed period and some offer a one time switch to a higher rate.
