  • lot of time...... Cow are my favrite... they lick me out of compassion..when i fed them...
  • more often then I have by humans by about a million to none. My dog knows when Im sad and she comes in from outside to confort me, thats a small one. my dogs have also helped me save a life and thats the biggie. mostly its how they seem to speek without words and let you know that somethings wrong. but animals are far and above humans at compassion no contest on any medium.
  • It appeared so at frirst glance.
  • Absolutely! I saw a little terrier-mix ferociously attack a German Shepherd that was mauling it's friend (another terrier-type dog). The terrier-mix actually scared the G.S. off, then went back to lick and take care of it's friend. It was amazing!
  • Many times I have seen my pets come to me or a family member who was sad or crying and try to cheer them up.
  • I've been the beneficiary of an act of compassion by an animal. My first pony saved my life when I was attacked by another horse. You might say that she was just fighting back, as she was getting hit by the blows too, but she didn't have to come back to protect me when the horse doubled back after she'd driven her off of me. And she didn't have to stand in the corner of the field nearest the house calling for me for three days, without eating, until I was able to let her know I was okay.
  • Yes my dog always is right next to me when I do not feel well.
  • My dog Spunky does it many times my friend! +5
  • Everyone in Nashville witnessed the following on television as it happened: Bank robbery just occured. Robber chased into a wooded area behind the bank. Gunshots rang out. robber was shooting at the police. Metro Police K-9 sent into woods to apprehend robber. K-9 shot by robber. Dog crawled back to his police officer master and died. A really pitiful site to see. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronunced dead. Even though seriously injured, this dog knew he was not going to die in the woods. He was going to die next to his master, K-9 officer. He was buried with honors and his badge placed in the Police Offiers Hall of Fame at the Police Academy. We all cried and not ashamed to admit it.

  • All the time but let me tell you..I had a german shepard years ago..he was a *one off* very very intelligent dog..he did many courageous things in his life..once a birds nest fell from a tree and the baby's (only a day or so old).. in the nest fell into some long grass where there was no chance of anyone finding them..he went into the never-ending grass and searched them out..he carried each one in his mouth without harming them and brought them to my feet..I don't know how he found them or how he knew they were there but to him..he was saving their lives..and thats all he cared about..
  • No one would go get me a beer out of the fridge so betty got one for me, she has no compassion, she did it for a treat , like most dogs do. seriously ,we are so far away from our own basic awareness now that we would not be able to tell if an animal is showing compassion. I think if you ware round an animal 24-7 I think you would be able to tell, and it does matter.
  • Yep! when I had my Dogs the big girl saved the little lass from a pack attack by four Doberman pinschers!! she waded in & drove of the Dobermans then went off to find the little lass & brought her back to me!! They were true friends!! ;-)
  • Yes my pet cat sat with me slept with me shadowed me in my every move. She knew I was hurting, I'd lost my mother
  • I had a male boxer who would get sick everytime I got the cramps. Not the compassion in some of the other stories, but I thought it was weird. So I couldn't let him see me sick at all, moaning, or just not looking well, because then I had to take care of him too. I shut the bathroom door and was very, very quiet. +4
  • From dogs and cats for sure. Maybe some others too.
  • Yes. More than once. Animals are capable of very deep emotions and compassion comes easily for those that are social animals.
