  • Seat belts have been statistically proven to save lives. We had an accident last September and I firmly believe that had we not been wearing our seat belts, we would have gone through the windshield.

  • When I was a firefighter I went to some scenes where the seat belt helped and some where the person would have been totally dead if they were wearing one. So from that experience I say it can go either way.

  • They save more lives than they cost. But they're not perfect and there are accidents where a person would have been better off not wearing them. . The trick is to wear your seat belt but take it off right before impact when you can tell that it's the other kind of accident. ;)
  • actually, maybe it's that the last act that a dying person does is reach over and undo their seatbelt, hoping to escape and survive.
