  • yes because everything is absorbed by a child and they can find rolemodels everywhere. A big part of my job in teaching 8th grade Sunday school is being a good rolemodel for the students.
  • I think it's very important for parents to have a support group they can call on for advice, babysitting, etc. I don't think that anyone can raise a child completely on their own.
  • Boy, and here I thought Hillery Clinton said that?
  • I believe it in the sense that "village" is representative of ones entire family, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents, cousins, brothers, sisters, etc. as well as those within their religious congregations (if the family is religiously inclined). It would entail people with similar goals for the child, all who share a love for the child and cares about his/her well being. I do not think that it literally means the people in the neighborhood. I would not want my neighbors taking it upon themselves to try and raise or instill ideas into my child.
  • I totally believe in this saying. When I was growing up, I had great parents but the people I was raised around also had positive influences in my life. When certain people saw me doing something I shouldn't have done they would direct me in the right way. People would give me good advice. Or say, you know your mom and your dad would approve of you doing that. I had people watching out for me, in my own neighborhood. I never really got into big trouble, but occassionally was dishonest.
  • I don't think so. I believe it takes 2 commited parents would are willing and able to raise the child.
  • NO; it takes a concerned and loving parent whp pays attention to the child and what the child is doing , whre it is going , and who it's friends are .... etc ... ANY avtivity of the child IS also the activity of that parent.
  • no. the only people who raised me were: my mom, dad, 3aunts, 2uncles, a brother, neighbors, friends parents- ok. somethimes :)
  • It takes positive role models in a community to raise children properly, teaching them to socialize and in worse neighborhoods looking out for them. Lack of community is why suburbs produce such egocentric narcissists, and housing projects produce so much urban decay.
  • If the parents are competent, NO. The kids whose parents are inadequate usually end up needing to be raised by the community.
  • First and foremost a good family situation is key. Whether in a single parent household or the traditional two parent house. Values are initiated at home first, or should be. A good comunity can augment but not do the job on it's own.
  • No parent can be everywhere all the time. Most kids will do things that they wouldn't normally do when parents aren't around. I would hope that someone - anyone - would contact me if such a thing occurs. That being said, I hope no one decides it's okay to discipline my child without turning the problem over to me.
  • To a point, obviously a child is influenced by a lot of factor's but at a certain point it is up to the indivual.
  • Ideally yes. Because no parent is perfect and they cannot be with a child 24/7. I think what this saying means is that it would be easier to raise a child if everyone in the community took some responsibility or played a role in raising the child. This could mean a neighbour keeping a concerned eye out when the parents are not home. An older person giving a younger person advice and counselling. A shop-keeper not selling a child cigarettes or alcohol etc. Sadly this is no longer the case any more because people 1.) don't want to take responsibility for other people's children anymore 2.) don't appreciate neighbours or relatives "butting in" anymore and 3.) also there is the fear of child-molesting or being accused of it.
  • No, it only takes one responsible, loving, mature hardworking adult.
  • I don't know about a whole community but it usually takes, parents, teachers and relatives. At least these are the people the child is influenced by the most.
  • If the parents know how to build their house, grow their food, dig for well water, build a sewage system, and generate electricity then the parents should be able to do it on their own.
  • I think it is good, miss having lots of old aunts and uncles and neighbours that care around. But it is not necessary. I have done it all by my self. And all I ever hear is that my kids are intelligent, and well adjusted.
  • NO. Parents are the only people who are responsible for raising a child.
