  • maybe this is untested tech and the claims probably won't be seen in the real driving world The Tesla roadster claims 230 per charge when top gear tested it they only got 50 mi per charge the 230-250 estimate is a rather complicated set of conditions and calaulations it's kind of like and EPA est MPG not often seen in the real world
  • Is Volt on the market yet? The most fuel efficient cars *on the market* are Japanese. They just tend not to announce cars until they are almost ready to ship. I would expect the Japanese to have comparable cars available about the time the Volt actually reaches the market.
  • thought they already did? Honda, toyota etc are all pretty good fuel efficient cars
  • Japanese manufactures are some of the most clever and progressive engineering companies in the world. Give their engineers the money and a mandate and they can build virtually anything you want. The Japanese excel at consumer goods like automobiles, and I have no doubt whatsoever that a year after the Volt comes on sale the major Japanese auto manufactures will have comparable models in there showrooms in Japan, and within 18 months in showrooms worldwide - no doubt with some noteworthy improvements. An industrious and clever people are our Japanese brothers - every day we learn so much from each other for the good of both of us.
