In most cases that I've observed, it's a combination of both actions and words.

It's our sixth sence at work, some people just don't ring true, and you feel it the moment you see, talk or chat like this to them. We should never ignore it, I believe it is rarely wrong. +

I try to keep my BS detector in good working order. People who are unauthenic can't seem to stay in my presence for very long, they seem to be uncomfortable rather quickly. All I have to do is be polite, and quiet. That's F2F. Online, don't know.
