  • Certainly- Why take study hall when there are so many other exciting courses to take? Usually a college is looking for a well rounded individual. Getting into a good school takes more than just academics.
  • It really depends on your level of commitments. Were you involved in other activities throughout your high school career (e.g., athletics, academic clubs, volunteer work? What about your course load? Did you take the most rigorous courses that your school had to offer and if so, how did you fare (i.e., how well did you do in terms of grades? Colleges want well-rounded, intelligent students that are going to prove to make their school shine once they graduate and enter the "real world." Hence, if you're taking study hall, in order, to have more time to study, then that is definitely a good idea! However, if you've breezed through high school taking only the minimal amount of courses, and haven't been involved in athletics or any form of community service and/or your grades are lackluster, then no, you might not wish to take study hall. Instead, you may wish to increase your chances of being accepted into a good college by focusing on your courses and trying to become involved in your community (i.e., performing volunteer work). Incidentally, whether or not you're involved in athletics is not as important to most colleges if you've got good grades and/or are involved in the community because being athletic isn't going to guarantee you'll get into college if you don't have the grades to back it up. I hope this helps to answer your question!
