Yes, but they do not speak as in mean what they say, they simply copy what they hear. Although with some parrots they do have an uncanny ability to actually answer your questions! But it is all down to training/chance.

I see one everyday. Usually he beats the alarm clock and is yakking/nibbling my ear on the pillow. His name is Trouble and he's a Quaker Parrot with a vocabulary of a little over 50 words and phrases. A couple of sound effects and tunes too.

I knew a macaw that was about 30years old he couldn't say much except helllo and a few other things. That were tought by the owner and the various girlfriends that he had over that time. And he never forgot the way to say hello in each of the past girlfriends voices even after nearly 30 years

I used to own one. Not only could he speak but he could imitate any sound. He was constantly imititating the sound of the telephone ringing and if I was in another room I would run to answer it only to find it was him. I'm sure he used to laugh at me everytime! We had roadworks being done at one stage and he picked up on imitating the jackhammer! That lasted for about a month. Thank goodness he didn't keep that one going.

Where I grew up all the spanish kids parents had tropical birds in the house. I remember them having parrots that spoke Spanish, it was so funny to me.

And the other at the local pet store.

Some politicians. Really though yes. We use to have an African Grey parrot at an old employer. He was awsome. Very smart bird. I have heard of them having upwards of a 1500 word vocabulary.

My Senegal has a vocab. of about 15 - 18 words or phrases, but can mimic almost any sound he hears quite frequently. Senegals love attention, so even though his vocab. isn't outstanding, he has many cute little antics that he uses when he feels the need for some attention! He can be quite comical, and all of my friends love him!
